A meeting was held recently by officials from The Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health to review the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the country in order to conduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2021 for admission into medical courses.
Sources in the education ministry informed ThePrint that a decision on the NEET schedule would be taken soon.
The undergraduate exam was slated to be held on August 1. However, the application forms are yet to be released.
The Ministry of Education was contemplating holding the pending editions of the engineering entrance exam JEE-Mains in July and August while the medical entrance exam NEET was to be shifted to September, sources said.
The JEE-Advanced exam, which is conducted for admission to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology and the National Institutes of Technology, was scheduled on July 3, whereas the remaining phases for JEE Mains were scheduled for April and May. However, both were postponed after an exponential rise in the number of COVID-19 cases during the second wave of the pandemic in the country
The ministry is also yet to decide on the fate of the Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET).
Last month, the CBSE cancelled class 12 board exams in view of the pandemic and has announced a marks tabulation policy.
Following the same route, the CISCE and several state boards also cancelled the same exams.
