New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Friday arrested a 43-year-old woman for allegedly stealing jewellery and cash from the AIIMS women doctors' hostel. The accused is a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad and is a science graduate. She also has a diploma in medical lab technology. During questioning the woman revealed that she started stealing gold as she loved ornaments made of yellow metal but could not afford them, reported NDTV.
A woman doctor at AIIMS lodged a police complaint after her gold ornaments and cash were stolen from her room. In the complaint, the doctor mentioned that her gold ring, two gold chains, a pair of gold earrings, a gold bracelet, Rs 4,500 cash and 522 Malaysian ringgits worth around Rs 10,000 were missing from her room, reported the media house.
On the basis of the complaint, the police lodged an FIR and initiated a probe into the matter. While scanning CCTV footage, cops noticed an unknown woman in the hostel compound after there were very less people in the hostel.
In one of the CCTV footage, the woman could be seen trying to open the doors of several rooms. Meanwhile, in another CCTV footage, she could be seen arriving and leaving the AIIMS hostel.
The woman was tracked and arrested from Ghaziabad. During interrogation, the woman told the police that she loved jewellery. She also told cops that she worked as a lab assistant at a private hospital. The accused revealed that she found out that woman doctors did not lock their hostel rooms.
