Kolkata Weather: IMD Predicts Moderate To Heavy Rainfall With Thunderstorms And Lightning In These Regions

Kolkata: The city woke up at 05:41 AM and the Sun is expected to set at 17:48. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall for Thursday, March 20, 2025, in numerous regions of West Bengal. The rainfall will be accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms until March 22. The rainfall is forecasted due to the anticyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal.

The weather agency said that rainfall is expected over West Bengal, including Kolkata, from March 19 to 22. Meanwhile, isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds will likely be over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on March 20 and 21.

IMD predicted rainfall in these regions

According to the IMD, storms and rains are predicted in almost all the districts of South Bengal for the next three days starting today. Moderate to heavy rainfall is possible in the districts of the western part of the state, as well as in Hooghly and East Burdwan.

Meanwhile, scattered rains are predicted in the remaining districts of South Bengal. Due to the storms and rains, the temperature is also likely to drop slightly in the districts of South Bengal this week. The wind is expected to blow from the Southwest at 10 km/h.

The minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to hover around 27 degrees Celsius and 35 degrees Celsius, respectively. The humidity is expected to be around 66 per cent. The possibility of rainfall is anticipated in numerous regions of the state, including Bankura, Jhargram, Paschim Medinipur, Hooghly, and Bardhaman.

Weather forecast for upcoming days

The Meteorological Department has issued an Orange alert in Kolkata on Friday, March 21, 2025, and gusty winds are forecast for Hooghly, Bankura, West, and East Midnapore. The wind will blow at about 50-60 km/h.
