Kerala Police Detain 12-Year-Old Girl For Killing 4-Month-Old Cousin Over Fear Of Losing Uncle's Affection

“The parents of the four-month-old had suspicions as the door was locked from the inside. The 12-year-old had the perception that she would never get affection because of the baby. Also, we found a contradiction between the statements of the girl and the parents of the four-month-old”, Karthick, the head of the investigation team, told the media.

Thiruvananthapuram: A minor girl was detained by the Kerala police after she allegedly tossed her four-month-old cousin into a well resulting in the baby’s death in a village in Kannur district. The baby was tossed into the well as the accused had feared that she may lose the love and affection of her uncle.

About The Case

According to the police, Yasika was sleeping with her parents when she went missing and was later found in a well near her residence on Monday.

Statement Of The Head Of The Investigation Team

“The parents of the four-month-old had suspicions as the door was locked from the inside. The 12-year-old had the perception that she would never get affection because of the baby. Also, we found a contradiction between the statements of the girl and the parents of the four-month-old”, Karthick, the head of the investigation team, told the media.

The accused initially told the police that she had gone to the toilet at night and had not seen the baby when she returned. Later, she admitted to her crime as the police found her behaving strangely after the incident.

Yasika, was the daughter of Akkammal and Muthu, hailing from Tamil Nadu. The couple moved to Kerala three years ago. Yasika’s cousin – Muthu’s niece – was in Kerala to spend her vacation.

Muthu’s brother had died three months ago, leading to his wife abandoning their two daughters. Muthu then took both the children under his care.
