Garhwa (Jharkhand), Jul 22: A two-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a distant relative in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district, police said on Tuesday. The accused, a 22-year-old man, was arrested in a place under Chiniyan police station area, and the victim is undergoing treatment at a hospital. Her condition is stated to be stable.
“The accused was arrested and sent to jail on Tuesday. The medical examination of the victim was also conducted,” Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Garhwa, Rohit Ranjan Singh, told PTI.
He said that the victim’s father, taking her along, went near a tractor, which had broken down, in their village on Monday.
“The accused also reached there soon after. He took the girl and moved away from there. The father thought he was taking her home. However, she raped her in a deserted place on the way,” Singh said, quoting the FIR.
The family members of the victim started searching for her when she did not reach home. The accused took her home later but left the place without saying anything, he said.
“The girl was crying, and family members thought something was wrong. They took her to a hospital, and the matter came to light,” the SDPO added. He said that after the incident came to the notice of the police, the accused was arrested.
