Jagannath Rath Yatra is one of the most prominent Hindu festivals in India, which is being observed every year as per the Hindu calendar, i.e. Shukla Paksha Dwitiya Tithi, Ashadha month.
Lord Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra 2022 in Odisha will begin from July 1, 2022 and will end on July 12, 2022. This year is quite special for the people as they will be able to participate in the yatra after a hiatus of two years owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On this day, Lord Jagannath, along with his brother Lord Balabhadra and sister Subhadra, comes out of the 12th century old temple and rides the chariots to the Gundicha temple, which is over 3 km away from the Jagannath temple.
They stay there for eight days and it is believed that on the fourth day after Rath Yatra Goddess Laxmi, the consort of Lord Jagannath, comes to Gundicha temple in search of him.
The ninth day, which is known as Bahuda Yatra, the deities return to their home. The day is celebrated on the Shukla Paksha Dashami Tithi of the Ashadh month.
July 1: Jagannath Rath Yatra will begin and the deities will start their journey towards the Gundicha temple.
July 5: Hera Panchami, which is the first five days during which deities reside in the Gundicha temple.
July 8: Sandhya Darshan/ Navami Darshan/ Adap Mandap Darshan, which is an auspicious occasion during which the devotees can see and pray all the deities.
July 9: Bahuda Yatra, known as the period during which the deities return back to their home.
July 10: Sunabesa, the period during which all the three deities reside back in the Jagannath temple.
July 11: Aadhar Pana. It is a ritual during which a special drink is offered to the holy chariots.
July 12: Niladri BJ, which is a special ritual performed by the end of the Jagannath Yatra.
