Among these trailblazers stands Surekha Yadav, Asia's first woman train driver, whose journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.

Born with a spirit of perseverance, Surekha Yadav shattered stereotypes by stepping into the male-dominated field of railway operations at a time when such careers were considered unconventional for women. She made history in 1988 by becoming India's first female train driver, paving the way for aspiring women in the railway sector.

With over 36 years of service, Surekha Yadav has exemplified dedication and commitment. Throughout her career, she has taken on the responsibility of piloting prestigious trains, including the Vande Bharat Express and Deccan Queen Express, along with other major mail and express trains across Central Railway.

Surekha Yadav's achievements extend beyond personal success. In a sector where women were once underrepresented, she has proven that skill, determination, and perseverance can break barriers and open new avenues. Her dedication to her role has earned her several prestigious awards, including the Jijau Puraskar (1998), Rashtriya Mahila Aayog Award (2001), Sahyadri Hirkani Award (2004), General Manager's Award (2011), and the 'First Ladies Award' from the President of India (2018).

"Surekha Yadav's remarkable journey serves as an enduring inspiration," said a senior railway official.
