India's active COVID-19 tally drops to 5.72 lakh: 46,148 cases and 979 deaths reported in last 24 hours

India reported 46,148 new COVID-19 cases and 979 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the active case tally to 5,72,994. At the same time, 58,578 people recovered from the virus. With this, India's cumulative COVID-19 tally since the pandemic began has now reached 3,02,79,331.

This is for the first time in over two and half months that the death toll has come below the 1,000-mark and the 11th consecutive day in the last two months when the toll has been below the 2,000-mark. India has become the second country after the US to record more than three crore cases of Covid. India added one crore cases in the last 50 days.

For the 46thconsecutive day, daily recoveries have outnumbered the daily case load. The recovery rate has now increased to 96.80% while the weekly positivity rate stands at 2.81%.

On Monday, the Health Ministry said that India had now surpassed the US when it came to the volume of COVID-19 vaccine administration. As per data from the Health Ministry, India has administered 32,36,63,297 vaccines doses as of 8 am on June 28.
