BNP Set For Historic Return After 25 Years
The BNP is on course for a landmark return to power after nearly 25 years, having crossed the crucial two-thirds majority mark in the 13th general election of Bangladesh.
According to the latest reports, the BNP-led coalition is leading in 209 of the 300 parliamentary seats. The BNP alone is ahead in 165 seats, comfortably outpacing its rivals.
Its closest challenger, Jamaat-e-Islami, is leading in 62 seats.
Tarique Rahman Emerges As Central Figure
Tarique Rahman has emerged as the central figure in the landslide victory, leading in both his constituencies Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17.
Senior BNP leader and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has also delivered a commanding performance, securing a massive lead of nearly 2.5 lakh votes in the Thakurgaon-1 constituency, according to a report by The Daily Star.
The sweeping mandate signals a major political shift in Bangladesh, with India expressing readiness to work closely with the new leadership to further strengthen bilateral ties.
