Gopalpur, Odisha: In a significant advancement in defense technology, Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL) has successfully developed and tested a low-cost, hard-kill counter-drone system named ‘Bhargavastra’. This cutting-edge system is designed to neutralise the growing threat of drone swarms, which have become a prominent concern in modern warfare.

The system utilises micro rockets that underwent rigorous testing at the Seaward Firing Range in Gopalpur on May 13. The trials, conducted in the presence of senior Indian Army officials, included three separate tests. Two of the trials involved firing a single rocket each, while the third trial showcased a salvo mode launch, firing two rockets within just 2 seconds.

According to SDAL, all four rockets performed as expected, achieving the desired launch parameters and demonstrating the system's capabilities in neutralising large-scale drone threats.

Have a look at the visuals from the testing:

Counter-Drone Technology

The ‘Bhargavastra’ system aims to address the rising threat posed by drone swarms, particularly in conflict zones and high-security areas. With drones being increasingly used for surveillance, logistics, and even armed attacks, this system could prove vital in safeguarding critical military and civilian infrastructure.

India-Pakistan Tensions Continue

Tensions along the India-Pakistan border remain high. The current conflict traces back to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which prompted India to launch Operation Sindoor, targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Pakistan retaliated with strikes on Indian military and civilian locations between May 7 and 10, leading to a brief military escalation. However, a ceasefire agreement, effective since May 10, has largely held, with both countries engaging in direct communication to ensure further de-escalation.
