New Delhi: India has issued Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) closing its airspace for Civilian and Military aircrafts owned, operated and leased by Pakistan amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack. The closure is effective from April 30 to May 23, 2025, a similar decision was taken by Pakistan to shut its airspace for Indian flights last week.

This step adds in the already announced series of measures against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, shutting down of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari, the suspension of visas for Pakistani nationals and the scaling down of top officials at the High Commission.

Reportedly, airlines in India are likely to face additional weekly expenses of ₹77 crore for international flights operated from north Indian cities due to the closure of airspace by Pakistan. Airlines such as Air India, IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express have been forced to reroute flights, resulting in longer travel times, additional fuel stops, and increased operational costs.
