India's reported COVID-19 cases have continued to show a downward trend and remained below one lakh mark for the fifth consecutive day as the country recorded 84,332 new cases during the last 24 hours, said the Union Health Ministry on Saturday.
With the new cases, the COVID case tally in India reached 2,93,59,155. The COVID-19 death toll climbed to 3,67,081 with 4,002 daily deaths, the Union Health Ministry data.
The active cases further declined to 10,80,690 comprising 3.68 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 95.07 per cent.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.39 per cent. It has been less than 10 per cent for the 19th consecutive day, the ministry said, adding the weekly positivity rate has also declined to 4.94 per cent. Recoveries continue to outnumber daily new cases for 30th consecutive day.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 2,79,11,384, while the case fatality rate has increased to 1.25 per cent, the data stated.
As many as 24,96,00,304 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered across the country so far.
The ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities. "Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research," the ministry said on its website, adding that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
