Addressing the centenary celebrations of the Bihar Assembly on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India has emerged as a 'Global Power' because of India's sustainable development.
"Because of national unity in the face of diversities, India is one," PM said.
Describing Bihar as the mother of democracy, Modi said that Vaishali and Lichchawi democracies were the earliest democracies in Bihar.
The prime minister further recalled the contributions of Dr Rajendra Prasad, Jagaprakash Narain, Jagjiwan Ram and Srikrishna Sinha in strengthening democracy and praised state chief minister Nitish Kumar for 50 per cent reservations to women in the Panchayati Raj institutions.
Modi, who is the first PM to visit Bihar Vidhan Sabha, urged the legislators to be productive in parliamentary business.
Modi further planted saplings of the Kalaptaru tree in the assembly campus, inaugurated the centenary memorial tower built with 54,000 kgs of Jaisalmer stones and laid foundation stones for a museum and guest house.
