New Delhi, July 19: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra on Saturday targeted the Narendra Modi government on its silence over the military losses allegedly occurred during the India-Pakistan conflict after India launched Operation Sindoor. Moitra raised serious concerns on her official social media account after US President Donald Trump claimed that five fighter jets were downed in the recent cross-border escalation between India and Pakistan.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Moitra wrote, “Each Rafale jet was bought with $250 mn of taxpayer money. We know at least 1 was shot down. Now @POTUS says total 5 jets (not all Rafales) were downed. Doesn’t India deserve a post Sindoor briefing?”
Her remarks came in the wake of President Trump’s surprising comments during a White House press briefing late Friday, where he mentioned that "We stopped a lot of wars. And these were serious, India and Pakistan, that was going on. Planes were being shot out of there. I think five jets were shot down, actually. These are two serious nuclear countries, and they were hitting each other,” without elaborating on the nationalities of all the aircraft involved.
Congress Reacts Over Donald Trump's Remarks
Congress MP Jairam Ramesh reacted to Donald Trump's claims and said, "Since May 10 till today, US President Donald Trump has repeated two things for 24 times first, he stopped the war between India and Pakistan; second, he says that the war should stop if India and Pakistan want trade with the US... Now he has claimed something new that five fighter jets went down... The Parliament is about to begin and the PM should break his silence... Any other leader will not do. The Congress and the entire Opposition will demand a special discussion, and the PM must answer... We don't want a substitute batsman. Only the PM must answer."
He also said, "There should be a 2-3 day discussion on Pahalgam, Trump, Operation Sindoor, China's role and the new challenges."

Earlier today, Mahua Moitra took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for invoking Goddess Kali during his West Bengal rally. She said, "Bit late in the day to start invoking Maa Kali for Bengali votes Hon’ble @narendramodi - she doesn’t eat dhoklas & never will."
