New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday greeted the nation on its 79th Independence Day. He urged everyone to work even harder to build a developed Bharat.

"Wishing everyone a very happy Independence Day. May this day inspire us to keep working even harder to realise the dreams of our freedom fighters and build a Viksit Bharat. Jai Hind," PM Modi said in a post on X.

On Thursday morning the Prime Minister visited Rajghat in the national capital and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

Upon his arrival at the Red Fort, the Prime Minister will be received by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, MoS Defence Sanjay Seth and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. The Defence Secretary will introduce Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Delhi area, to the PM.

Independence Day 2025 Theme:

This year’s celebrations embrace the theme "Naya Bharat", highlighting the vision of a prosperous, secure, and self-reliant nation while honouring the success of Operation Sindoor.

From the iconic Red Fort, PM  Modi will hoist the tricolour and address the nation, inspiring citizens to unite for a stronger future.

As per the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the Indian Air Force is this year’s coordinating service for the celebrations. The flag hoisting will be assisted by Flying Officer Rashika Sharma, with the Air Force band playing the National Anthem. In a historic first, 11 Agniveer Vayu musicians will join the band for the anthem performance.

Aerial salute and flower shower

Immediately after the National Flag is hoisted, two Mi-17 IAF helicopters will shower flower petals over the Red Fort. One helicopter will carry the Indian national flag, while the other will bear a flag symbolising the success of Operation Sindoor- a recent milestone celebrated as part of the “Naya Bharat” vision.
