Thrissur: A 23-year-old pregnant woman in Kerala reportedly died by suicide on Monday, July 28, after being subjected to brutal domestic violence for months.
According to a report by News18, Faseela, a resident of Vellangular in Thrissur, was found hanging in her husband’s home. Hours before her death, she had sent a string of disturbing WhatsApp messages to her mother, detailing the abuse and indicating she feared for her life.
Her husband Naufal and mother-in-law Ramla were arrested the next day and sent to judicial custody. The family of the deceased said Faseela had long been suffering abuse at the hands of both, and had previously confided in them about repeated physical assault and humiliation.
'He kicked me in the stomach and broke my hand'
In her final messages, Faseela revealed she was pregnant for the second time and had been physically assaulted by her husband, who allegedly kicked her in the stomach multiple times. She also claimed that her mother-in-law constantly abused her.
The most harrowing message she sent read, “I am going to die or else they will kill me.” A case has now been registered under charges of abetment to suicide, and the inquest was conducted at the Government Medical College in Thrissur. Her body has been handed over to her family. Faseela is survived by a young son.
String of Suicides Over Domestic Violence
Faseela’s death is not an isolated tragedy. In July, 29-year-old Athulya Satheesh, a Kollam native living in Sharjah, also died by suicide after years of reported abuse. In a voice note sent days before her death, she accused her husband of repeated violence. He later allegedly admitted to hitting her, claiming he did it “out of love”.
Earlier this month, another Kollam woman, Vipanchika Mani, ended her life and that of her infant daughter in Sharjah after leaving behind a detailed Facebook note describing physical abuse, dowry harassment and sexual violence at the hands of her husband.
