Panaji: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Panjim and all talukas in Goa, predicting moderate to intense rainfall with strong winds for the next 4 to 6 hours.

Wind speeds are expected to be 50–60 km/h, with gusts up to 70 km/h. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely across many areas of North and South Goa, alongside thunderstorms and strong winds in isolated locations, raising concerns about potential disruptions and hazards.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has elevated its weather alert for Goa to a red warning on May 21, predicting extremely heavy rain in isolated areas, while heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in several locations throughout the state.

The IMD's recent announcement features a nowcast alert, indicating that Panaji and all talukas in Goa are expected to face moderate to heavy rainfall in the coming 4 to 6 hours.

The department has also recommended that authorities manage traffic effectively due to the extreme weather conditions and urged residents in at-risk areas to implement essential precautions.

By 2pm, the state's fire and emergency services noted 25 reports of trees down throughout Goa as a result of the weather conditions. Furthermore, the IMD has released a flash flood alert for North Goa, according to report by Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC).

"Moderate risk of flash flooding expected in several watersheds and neighborhoods over the next 24 hours." "Surface runoff/Inundation might happen in some completely saturated soils and low-lying regions within the Area of Concern (AoC), as indicated on the map, due to anticipated rainfall in the next 24 hours," the alert states.
