New Delhi: Hours after a partially burnt body of a woman was recovered in Delhi Ghazipur, the police arrested a man in connection with the murder. The initial investigation led the police to chilling details. The deceased has been identified as Shilpa Pandey.

During the probe, it was found that a live-in relationship led to the murder. In the evening at around 4 pm, the police received a PCR call about the half-burnt body of a woman found inside a suitcase in the Ghazipur area.

Upon arriving, the police found the burnt body of a person aged between 20to 35 years, reported The Indian Express. The suitcase was also burnt. Apart from the body and the suitcase, the cops did not have any other clue.

Meanwhile, the body was sent to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital’s mortuary a case was reportedly registered under sections 103(1), 238 and 3(5), of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Four specialised teams were formed and an investigation was launched. The police then started scanning the CCTV installed in the area. During the probe, it was found that the body was burnt around 1.30 to 2 am. The police started tracking the vehicles passed in the area during that time.

“Evidence suggested that the body had been burnt around 1.30 to 2 am. Our teams narrowed down cars passing by in that area during that time and did end-to-end verification of each car’s details. One car led our team to a man living in Loni who said he’d sold his car to a man named Amit,” said Abhishek Dhania, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) as reported by The Indian Express.

The police zeroed their investigation on two suspects - Amit Tiwari and Anuj Kumar. Both are reportedly 22-year-old residents of Khora Colony in Ghaziabad. As per the police, the car captured in the CCTV was found in Tiwari's area.

Tiwari is a taxi driver and confessed to his crime during interrogation. Notably, Pandey was Tiwari's paternal cousin. Tiwari told the police that, she had run away from her home in Surat and had been living with him since November.

"During his interrogation, he told us that Shilpa had run away from her home in Surat in November and had been living with him. The two were involved in an illicit affair and Shilpa had reportedly pressured Tiwari to leave his family and live with her permanently. She also threatened to falsely implicate him and his family,” said Dhania as reported by the media house.

On the day of the incident, Tiwari was drinking. An altercation broke out between the two. He then strangulated her to death. Meanwhile, Anuj Kumar helped him in disposing off the body.

As per the police, the duo travelled for hours with the body. Their plan was to dispose off the body in Uttar Pradesh. However, strict checks by the police due to Republic Day, forced the duo to dump the woman's body near Ghazipur. They bought diesel at a petrol pump to burn the body.

After setting the body on fire, the accused left the spot.

The victim's family has been informed.
