Chennai: In the run up to the last Parliamentary elections, one slogan that resonated across Tamil Nadu was “Who is better? This ”lady” or ”Modi”?”, which was posed by then Chief Minister and AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa.
And when the results of the 2014 general elections were announced, the answer was loud and clear with the electorate landing 37 of the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu on Jayalalithaa”s lap making her AIADMK the third largest party in Parliament, next only to the Congress poor tally of 44.
Cut to the present, barely two years after her death, the AIADMK has not only embraced the BJP but is also hailing Prime Minister Modi as its “Daddy”. On Friday Dairy Development Minister K T Rajenthra Bhalaji told journalists that “Modi is our daddy. He is also India”s daddy. We accept his leadership”.
Asked about his party joining hands with the BJP for the coming Lok Sabha polls and whether it was not against Jayalalithaa”s stand, Bhalaji said: “Amma”s (Jayalalithaa) decision is different. In the absence of a towering personality like here, Modi is our daddy. He is India”s daddy.”
