Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said five to six new faces are likely to be inducted into her cabinet.

Addressing the press conference, Mamata also mentioned that few present ministers will be used for organizational work of the party.

“There will be a small reshuffle in the cabinet on Wednesday. Senior leaders and ministers like Subrata Mukherjee, Sadhan Pande have died and Partho da (Chatterjee) is in Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody for which we need people to look after those ministries as I alone can’t see all the departments alone. Five to six new faces will be inducted in the cabinet,” said Mamata.

According to state secretariat Nabanna sources, Mamata has instructed everyone not to do anything that would have an ‘adverse’ effect on the party and government.

Meanwhile, some organizational changes also took place in Trinamool Congress today.

Amid speculations that they might be made ministers, TMC MLAs Tapas Roy and Partha Bhowmick were relieved from their posts of party presidents of North Kolkata and Dum Dum repectively.

Irrigation minister Saumen Mahapatra and Ashima Patra who is the minister of planning and statistics have been put into organizational work. TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has been made chairman of party unit in Barasat.

Mamata also announced the introduction of seven new districts in the state including Sunderban in South 24 Parganas, Ichamati and Bashirhat in North 24 Parganas, Ranaghat, Kandi, Bankura-Bishnupur, Behrampur-Jangipur.

Slamming the new development, the opposition slammed the Chief Minister.

State BJP president Sukanta Majumdar taking to Twitter said, “Scam tainted CM @MamataOfficial is going to reshuffle her cabinet, but took no action against her minister Paresh Adhikari in an illegal appointment case. WB is reeling under huge debt. Will she answer from where the additional money to run these districts will come from?”

Senior CPI (M) leader Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya said that new districts mean ‘new thieves in TMC’.
