New Delhi: The Press Information Bureau's fact-checking unit on Wednesday debunked fake news widely circulating on social media regarding the official residence of the Vice President of India. The false claim alleged that the Vice President’s residence had been sealed and that former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar had been asked to immediately vacate the house.

"It is being widely claimed on social media that Vice President’s official residence has been sealed and former VP has been asked to vacate his residence immediately," PIB said in a post on X.

"These claims are #Fake Don’t fall for misinformation. Always verify news from official sources before sharing it," PIB added.

According to news agency PTI,  Jagdeep Dhankhar has started packing his belongings and plans to soon move out of the Vice President's Enclave, people familiar with the development said. As a former vice president, he is entitled to a government bungalow.

74-year-old Dhankhar unexpectedly resigned from his post on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament on Monday, citing health reasons. "To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the constitution," the letter read.

Dhankhar was sworn in as the 14th Vice President of India in 2022 with his term set to run until 2027. He defeated opposition candidate Margaret Alva in the Vice Presidential election held on August 6, 2022
