Former President Pranab Mukherjee's son, Abhijit Mukherjee, who had joined TMC in 2021, returned to the Congress party on Wednesday. After formally returning to the Congress party, Abhijit called it a mistake to join another party.

Notably, in June last year, Abhijit had expressed his desire to rejoin the Congress party, stating, "TMC's work culture didn't match with that of the Congress at all."

Earlier today, Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir told news agency ANI, "He (Abhijit Mukherjee) was in touch with the leadership and state PCC for the last year... Today, it has been decided that Abhijit Mukherjee (Pranab Mukherjee's son) will join Congress again."

On TMC contesting West Bengal assembly elections independently, the Congress leader said, "There were some other parties too who contested alone where elections were held recently. Many times, they say that Congress is a big party, so Congress should take others along... Congress has always given space to other allies. But when other parties have a stronghold, they are not ready to take others along... At present, the Congress party is trying its best to stand on its own feet in the whole of West Bengal."
