The city police on Wednesday registered a case against former Hyderabad Mayor and AIMIM leader Majid Hussain, reported news agency ANI.
Police officials told ANI that Hussain entered into a verbal spat with some people over the land issue and was threatening them.
According to reports, there was a dispute pertaining to land located at Film Nagar. Police reached the spot after receiving a complaint about a tussle between two groups about the ownership of the property.
When police personnel reached the spot, Majid Hussain along with others started arguing with police and obstructed them from discharging their duties.
The video of the incident has gone viral on social media. The police have registered a case under IPC Sec 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) against Majid Hussain. According to a report by siasat.com, another case has also been registered against Majid Hussain and others for allegedly trespassing and threatening Nikhil Reddy who claims to be owner of the land.
In 2014, Majid Hussain resigned as mayor of Hyderabad as per a power-sharing understanding between his party Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) and the Congress.
As per the understanding reached after the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls in 2009, the Congress held the mayor's post for the first two years and MIM's Majid Hussain served as mayor for the next two years.
