Kolkata: Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leaders Rakesh Tikait and Yudhvir Singh met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to seek her support in the ongoing farmers' protest against the BJP-led Central government’s farm laws.
Assuring all support to the ongoing farmers’ movement, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that there should be a common platform where all the Chief Ministers can converse on policy issues.
“The communication gap between the Central government and the farmers and bulldozing the states will lead to the breakage of the federal structure,” claimed Mamata.
Stating that Tikait had asked her to meet the farmers at the protesting sites, Mamata said after the second wave of Covid goes down she will hold a virtual meeting with all the non-BJP Chief Ministers and will also go to the protesting site.
“On one side the Central government is not holding talks with the farmers, on the other side they have levied GST on medicines. The BJP government is making all sectors from healthcare to farmers to industry to suffer. India is facing both natural and political disasters,” claimed the TMC supremo, adding that the agitation will go on till Prime Minister Narendra Modi is removed.
Notably, during the recently concluded Assembly polls in West Bengal, Tikait visited the state and had campaigned ‘No vote for BJP’ in Kolkata, Nandigram and Singur.
Incidentally, Mamata Banerjee earlier had sent her MPs to the protesting site at Singhu border and had assured all the farmers help from the Trinamool Congress.
“The agitation is not just limited to Haryana and Punjab. It is a national issue. I have protested for farmers in Nandigram and Singur. The three farm laws should be immediately repealed,” claimed the West Bengal Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, BKU leader Rakesh Tikait thanked Mamata Banerjee for her assurance to help the farmers.
