Karni Sena youth claim that Kapoor has failed to act on her 2013 promise to check facts in the TV serial ‘Jodha Akbar’
Jaipur : Soap doyenne Ekta Kapoor had to face the wrath of Rajput youth, who shouted slogans against her as she participated in a session in the Jaipur Literature Festival at the Diggi Palace here on Monday.
The protesters, annoyed with the distortion of historical facts in the Kapoor-directed ‘Jodha Akbar’, yelled ‘Ekta Kapoor murdabad.’
About a dozen youth belonging to Karni Sena, a Rajput community outfit, managed to sneak into the Front Lawn, where Ekta Kapoor was in the midst of a discussion and started the sloganeering against the director, protesting against the distortion of facts in the epic serial. Last year too, in August, Karni Sena volunteers protested against the serial, claiming that it distorted and twisted facts, hurting the sentiments of the Rajput community, to which Emperor Akbar’s Hindu wife Jodha Bai belonged. Following the protest, Ekta had gone on record, saying that she would ensure there were no distortions and that even the title of the serial produced by Balaji Films would changed. They said that had not fulfilled the promises made to the Karni Sena and the show had continued to go on. The police nabbed the protestors and evicted them from the festival venue.
