A video of an DMK functionary from Sundaramurthy Ayyanar Temple in the Kolathur area of Tamil Nadu's Perambalur has surfaced online showing him walking away with a Hundi, a collection box where devotees offer cash and other valuables to the deity.

The man seen in the video has been identified as DMK functionary Thunaivendhan. According to reports, the Hundi was installed by Thunaivendhan himself.

BJP leader K Annamalai has responded to the viral video. In a post on X, sharing the video of the incident, Annamalai wrote, "DMK functionary Thunaivendhan is caught on video lifting a Hundi from the Sundaramurthy Ayyanar Temple in Kolathur, Perambalur. Ironically, this Hundi wasn't installed by the HR&CE Department, but by Thunaivendhan himself."

According to Annamalai, when officials arrived at the temple to seal the unauthorised Hundi, the DMK functionary resorted to threats and walked away with the Hundi, filled with devotees' offerings.

Hitting out at the DMK-ruled state government over the incident, Annamalai said, "Under DMK rule, even temples are not spared from political loot. And this is not the first time we have pointed this out!"

The video has sparked sharp reactions from social media users calling the incident shameful.

"Shameful! When temple donations become a target for political greed, it shows how deep the rot runs. Devotees' faith and offerings deserve respect, not exploitation by those in power," wrote one user.

Demanding strict action against the loot, another user commented, "Unbelievable! First they install their own Hundi, then rob it like it's personal property? Under DMK, temples have become loot zones, not sacred spaces. Time for strict action and real accountability."
