Patna: A Delhi-bound IndiGo flight made an emergency landing at Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna as it suffered a bird strike shortly after take off. The IndiGo Airline Flight, 6E 5009, took off from Patna at 8.42 am when its engine reportedly developed a technical snag after the bird hit.
As per the Patna Airport, a dead bird in pieces was found on the runway during inspection. All passengers are reported to be safe. "IGO5009 Patna to Delhi reported bird hit after takeoff at 0842 IST, one dead bird in pieces found on runway during inspection. The same was advised to the aircraft through the Approach Control Unit," the airport said in a statement.
"Message received from the approach control unit that aircraft requested to come back to Patna due to vibration in one engine. Local stand-by declared and aircraft landed safely at 0903 IST on runway 7. All passengers are safe," it added. The Airline is making alternate arrangements for the passengers.
"We are making alternate arrangements for the passengers, as the aircraft has been grounded," an airline official told Hindustan Times on the condition of anonymity.
Notably, there are several slaughterhouses which attract birds near the Patna airport.
