A delegation of the Dawoodi Bohra community met Prime Minister Modi to express gratitude to him for the Waqf Amendment Act. News agency PTI shared visuals of the meeting on X.
During the meeting, the community members stated that it was a long-pending demand that has now been fulfilled.
“The Dawoodi Bohra community has reposed faith in the Prime Minister’s vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas,” PTI reported.
The Dawoodi Bohras, a Muslim community with roots in Western India, now have members across over 40 countries globally. Their heritage dates back to the Fatimid Imams, who were direct descendants of Prophet Muhammad in Egypt. The community follows the guidance of their leader, known as al-dai al-mutlaq (unrestricted missionary), whose seat of authority moved from Yemen to India approximately 450 years ago.
In separate developments, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has requested Governor CV Ananda Bose to postpone his planned visit to Murshidabad, an area recently affected by violence. She suggested waiting until public confidence and peace are restored in the region. Banerjee also mentioned that she has announced a compensation policy for victims after three people lost their lives in recent unrest related to protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
