Corruption Crackdown In UP: Vigilance Officials Arrest 2 Govt Clerks For Taking ₹30,000 Bribe Over CCTV Installation

In a sting operation, Uttar Pradesh Vigilance officials arrested two clerks in Unnao—Amit Kumar (DIOS office) and Amit Bharti (GGIC)—for taking a Rs 30,000 bribe to clear a bill for CCTV installation. The arrests were made after Civil Lines resident Lal Singh complained to the Vigilance Department's Lucknow sector about the illegal activity.

Unnao, Uttar Pradesh: In an intensified crackdown on corruption, Uttar Pradesh's Vigilance officials arrested two clerks in Unnao for accepting a Rs 30,000 bribe. Amit Kumar, posted at the District School Inspector's (DIOS) office, and Amit Bharti of Government Girls Inter College (GGIC) were caught red-handed during a sting operation, as per a report by NBT.

The arrests were made after Civil Lines resident Lal Singh complained to the Vigilance Department's Lucknow sector about the illegal activity. Singh had installed CCTV cameras at GGIC, but the clerks allegedly demanded a bribe to clear the payment. Amit Kumar used Amit Bharti as a middleman to collect the money. Acting on the complaint, Vigilance officials set up a trap and apprehended both accused while accepting the bribe.

Accused Female Accountant Suspended

Accountant Usha Chaudhary was suspended from Siddharthnagar's Bansi Kotwali, after a viral video showed her accepting a bribe at the police station. SDM Bansi Shashank Shekhar Rai confirmed that the suspended accountant has been attached to the Revenue Inspector Office of Bansi for the period of suspension. The case is now under investigation of the Tehsildar Bansi.

Inspector Suspended After Bribe Video Goes Viral

In Shahjahanpur, inspector Anil Kumar of Kalan police station was suspended after a video of him taking Rs 2,000 to shield an accused in a road accident case, went viral on social media. Following an inquiry by CO Amit Chaurasia, SP Rajesh S confirmed the bribery, leading to Kumar's suspension and departmental action.

Station In-Charge Taken Into Custody

SI Kapil Bharti, in charge of Hanumantpura outpost, was caught red-handed accepting a Rs 50,000 bribe by the Anti-Corruption Team. SSP Sanjay Verma confirmed the arrest, and Bharti has been taken to Sahaso police station, where a case is being registered. He will be later presented before the Anti-Corruption Court in Lucknow.
