Guwahati: The volatile situation at the Jorabat inter-state border entered its third consecutive day, marked by intense protests and high-strung emotions.

Protests Over Convoy Movement: Amid the ongoing blockade and friction, tension flared up further when the official convoy carrying Meghalaya’s Deputy Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary crossed towards Guwahati.

Slogan Chanting:

Frustrated protesters and transport workers at the site swarmed the area, raising vociferous slogans such as "Meghalaya Government, down, down" (Meghalaya Sarkar Hay Hay) and "Meghalaya Government, go back" in sharp protest against the recent targeting of Assam-registered vehicles.

High-Level Inter-State Engagement:

The movement of top officials coincides with coordinated diplomatic efforts by Assam Border Protection and Development Minister Atul Bora and Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, who have been assigned by their respective chief ministers to helm inter-ministerial talks and restore normalcy.

Background Context:

The protests at Jorabat and Khanapara erupted in the wake of widespread violence and vehicle vandalism during a student rally in Shillong. While transport unions and cab operators continue to restrict Meghalaya-bound traffic, top bureaucratic and political leadership from both states are actively engaging in dialogue alongside the Chief Secretaries to defuse regional tensions
