Clash during wedding procession leaves 12 injured

Bareilly:  About 12 people were injured when members of two different communities clashed and indulged in brick batting over an incident of eve-teasing during a wedding procession in Subhash Nagar area here.

The incident took place last night when some boys of a particular community in an inebriated state started making comments and teasing women dancing in the wedding procession moving towards Bagiya locality, following which they were beaten up by other members attending the function, police said.

As the procession reached a religious place on the route, the boys returned with their associates and clashed with its members and also indulged in brick batting leading to injuries to about 12 people of which two were serious, police said.

The car of the bridegroom and some other vehicles were damaged in the brick batting , police said.

Later the situation was brought under control when police of three police stations and one platoon PAC reached the spot and used lathis to disperse the brick batting mob, police said.

The father of the bridegroom has alleged that miscreants looted the box containing jewellery and other valuables worth lakhs of rupees.

Police has lodged a complaint against 24 unidentified people and efforts were on to trace them.
