A recent poaching incident in the Khallari forest area has shocked the Forest Department and highlighted its failure to control illegal hunting. In a tragic event at Forest Compartment No. 182 near the foothills of Khallari Mateshwari hill, a female bison and a bundi bull died painfully after being electrocuted.

According to reports, unidentified individuals had spread around 400 meters of mud-coated electric wire from a high-tension power pole in the area. After the animals were killed, the accused removed the wires to make it appear like an accidental death rather than a planned poaching. The incident is believed to have taken place late Sunday night. Upon receiving the information, local forest officials reached the site and began an investigation.

Congress farmer leader Ankit Bagbahara held the Forest Department responsible, stating that poaching incidents in the state are continuing unchecked. He pointed out that in the past, several lions and leopards have also been killed, and many other wild animals are being hunted openly. He criticized the department for its lack of strong action or accountability and expressed concern that the matter might be covered up by senior forest officials.

Bagbahara urged Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap to take serious note of the issue, warning that if such poaching continues, the forests of Chhattisgarh could soon be emptied of wildlife. He demanded strict action against those responsible, including any negligent officers.
