Raipur: Chhattisgarh Waqf Board Chairman Dr. Salim Raj has strongly criticized the Congress party after the Waqf Amendment Bill was passed in Parliament. He described the legislation as an ‘attack on the Constitution’, arguing that Congress has been the main force in undermining the Constitution over the past 70 years.

Dr. Raj also accused the Congress of turning against the opposition during the Emergency period, calling it a sin. He further alleged that the Congress, which had previously weakened the Constitution, is now using it only for political gain, labeling their actions as hypocritical.

Dr. Raj emphasized that while the Congress may view the new Waqf law through the lens of religion and caste, the central government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is taking a broader, national perspective.

He claimed that the new Waqf law would safeguard the interests of all religions and communities, while also opening up opportunities for the educational, social, and economic empowerment of backward and poor Muslims.

He pointed out that key Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra, and Sonia Gandhi, did not participate in the discussion on such an important issue in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Sonia Gandhi, after leaving the Rajya Sabha, made her position clear, and Rahul Gandhi has now followed suit.

Dr. Raj accused the Congress of being unwilling to move beyond their political stance of communal appeasement and criticized the party for its ideological bankruptcy. He concluded by noting that the general public has welcomed and supported the amendment, viewing it as beneficial for their progress.
