Chandauli: A simmering housing dispute exploded into brutal violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli district on Tuesday morning (July 22), when a 25-year-old youth attacked two men with an axe, leaving one of them critically injured with the blade stuck near his eye.
The disturbing incident occurred in Phulpur village under the Balua police station area. The attacker, identified as Suraj Ram, allegedly ambushed 60-year-old Balram Yadav and 45-year-old Ramkishun Ram, relatives of the Gram Pradhan, while they were en route to the police station in connection with a prior complaint.
Balram, the father-in-law of village head Seema Devi’s husband, was grievously wounded, with the axe lodged in his skull. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
A video of the disturbing incident surfaced on social media.
Detailed Account of the Incident
According to Dilip Kumar, husband of the Gram Pradhan, the roots of the conflict lay in a months-old dispute over the government’s housing scheme. Suraj Ram, who had temporarily left the village for work, reportedly held Dilip responsible for not receiving benefits under the scheme.
After returning a few days ago, Suraj allegedly arrived at the Pradhan’s house in an inebriated state on Monday night (July 21), issuing threats and abusing the women present. The family immediately alerted emergency services and the Balua police. The police, in turn, asked the complainants to report at the station the next morning.
Tragically, as Balram and Ramkishun were on their way to the police station on Tuesday, Suraj confronted them, resulting in a heated exchange that quickly escalated into violence. Suraj struck both men with an axe before fleeing the scene.Based on the complaint received from the family members, a case has been registered under relevant sections by the local police station, and further legal proceedings are underway.
