Who Was Dr. BR Ambedkar?

Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, popularly known as Babasaheb Ambedkar, was born on April 14, 1891, in Madhya Pradesh's Mhow. Known for being a pioneering leader in the fight against social discrimination, Ambedkar dedicated his entire life to advocating for the rights of marginalised communities, especially the Dalits.

Ambedkar forged a modern India, with his significant contribution to the framing of the Indian Constitution. He was an economist, scholar, and the nation's first Law and Justice Minister, with his contributions affecting India's legal and social system greatly. He was also the first individual from an underprivileged background to pursue a career in law and later became the first Indian to obtain a doctorate. A polyglot who spoke nine languages, Ambedkar had a lasting impression on education and administration.

Ambedkar passed away on December 6, 1956. He was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour. His death anniversary is also celebrated as the Mahaparinirvan Diwas to remember the priceless contributions that he made for social justice and equality.
