The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in collaboration with Handicrafts and Carpet Sector Skill Council (HCSSC) introduced a student handbook for the skill Module on ‘Handicrafts’ for Classes 6 to 8, NDTV reported.
The skill module will have a 12 hours duration for classes 6 to 8. Paper Mache and Fashion Jewellery are the two modules covered by the handbook and they will be available on CBSE's academic website-cbseacademic.nic.in
This module on ‘Handicrafts’ is focused on practical activities and will give hands-on learning experience to the students said CBSE, in a statement.
Krishna Kumar, CEO, HCSSC told NDTV that only recycled materials have been used for the practical activities mentioned in the handbook which will help promote good environmental habits amongst students at a young age.
"All the tools and equipment’s required for teaching this Skill Module can be easily procured by the school and are totally safe for the students.” he further said.
Earlier this month, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in collaboration with Microsoft introduced coding and data sciences as skill modules in its curriculum. This was done under last year’s National Education Policy.
"The idea is to simplify the coding learning experience by nurturing design thinking, logical flow of ideas and apply this across the disciplines. The foundations laid in the early years will help the students to build the competencies in the area of AI, Data Sciences and other disciplines,” read a notification sent to all CBSE schools in the first week of June.
