New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday slammed the the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal over their claim that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana “poisoned” the Yamuna water. While addressing an election rally in Delhi’s Kartar Pur, PM Modi said how the Haryana government could poison water that the Prime Minister, judges and other prominent personalities drink. He called Kejriwal’s claim PM a "grave sin" for political gain.
“A former CM of Delhi has levelled disgusting allegations on people of Haryana. Due to fear of losing, people from 'aapda' have got rattled. Are people of Haryana different from those in Delhi?” PM Modi said.
“Are relatives of those living in Haryana not residing in Delhi? Can the people of Haryana poison the water their own people drink? The water sent by Haryana is consumed by everyone living in Delhi, which also includes this Prime Minister," he added.
“How can one think that Haryana will poison the water to kill Modi?” the Prime Minister stated.
PM Modi called Kejriwal’s allegations against the Haryana government, not only an insult to the state but also to the entire country.
“People of 'aapda' say that people of Haryana mix poison in water sent to Delhi. This is not just an insult to Haryana but to all Indians. Ours is a country where providing drinking water is considered a good deed...Such fear of losing that they are saying anything. I am sure Delhi will teach a lesson to people who say such things. in aapda walon ki llutiya Yamuna mein hi doobegi (the AAP will sink in the Yamuna River only),” the Prime Minister said.
During the rally, PM Modi said that the people of Delhi should give a chance to the BJP this time as they suffered under the Congress and the AAP governments for the last 25 years. “You have witnessed Congress' tenure and AAP's 11-year tenure but the problems facing Delhi have remained. In 25 years, they (Congress & AAP) have destroyed your two generations. There are still traffic jams, water logging and pollution in Delhi,” he said.
“Your one vote can relieve you of all these problems. We have to complete pending works from the last 11 years and also plan for the next 25 years. You've seen the last 25 years under Congress and AAP, now give the 'lotus' a chance,” the Prime Minister added.
Kejriwal on Monday levelled serious allegations against the BJP government in Haryana of “poisoning” the Yamuna water supplied to Delhi so that "people die" and the blame comes on the AAP. The former Delhi CM had alleged that the water supplied by Haryana had high levels of ammonia, around 700 times more than the permissible limit.
"If this water would have entered Delhi only to be mixed with the drinking water, many people would have died in Delhi. It would have caused mass genocide," Kejriwal had alleged.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has asked Kejriwal to provide factual evidence to substantiate his serious allegations that the river Yamuna was poisoned by the neighbouring Haryana state.
The Assembly elections in Delhi are scheduled to take place in a single phase on February 5 and votes will be counted on February 8.
