BSP Supremo Mayawati Calls For Unity Against US Tariff Decision On Indian Exports

Drawing a parallel with Brazil, another BRICS nation targeted by similar tariffs, Mayawati accused the US of attempting to economically weaken India. While the Modi government termed the move "unjust, unfair, and irrational," Mayawati said the Indian public views it as a betrayal by a so called "friend."

Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has strongly condemned the US government's decision under President Donald Trump to impose a 50% tariff on Indian exports, calling it a "treacherous act" that undermines India’s economic strength. She urged the government and all political stakeholders to rise above narrow political interests and work collectively in the national interest.

Drawing a parallel with Brazil, another BRICS nation targeted by similar tariffs, Mayawati accused the US of attempting to economically weaken India. While the Modi government termed the move "unjust, unfair, and irrational," Mayawati said the Indian public views it as a betrayal by a so called "friend." She emphasized the need for a calm, mature response, free from internal divisions and political vendettas.

Highlighting the BSP's long-standing commitment to a people-centric, inclusive political approach, she stressed the importance of upholding peace, law and order, and strategic preparedness in the face of such external challenges.

According to her, discussions on this issue should take precedence in the ongoing parliamentary session. She further criticized the ongoing friction between central and state governments, suggesting that mutual distrust and constant political clashes are hindering India’s ability to respond effectively to global economic pressures.

Mayawati reiterated her call for unity and long-term planning, in line with the constitutional vision of serving the broader public interest. This marks one of her strongest statements on foreign trade policy in recent times.
