BJP Lok Sabha MP Udyanraje Bhosale has demanded strict legislative action against individuals who make disrespectful statements about Maratha icons, amid the ongoing controversy sparked by remarks praising Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

"Strict action should be taken against those who give wrong statements about Shahaji Chhatrapati Maharaj, Rajmata Jijau, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj," Bhosale stated. "Whether it is the ruling party or the opposition, the state government and the central government should pass a law in the current session itself."

The royal descendant also called for the publication of an official book documenting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's life "so that wrong information regarding history is not spread." Additionally, he suggested forming a committee of historical experts to review films depicting historical events before their release.

Bhosale's statement comes days after Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi was suspended from the Maharashtra Assembly for praising Mughal tyrant Aurangzeb, who is widely reviled in Maharashtra for his persecution of Hindus and execution of Shivaji's son, Sambhaji Maharaj.

Azmi faced severe criticism from both the ruling Mahayuti alliance and several INDIA alliance leaders for his controversial remarks, prompting him to issue an apology.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde strongly condemned Azmi's statement, warning that "his statement will cost him" and demanding that a treason case be registered against the SP leader.
