The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to announce Delhi's CM's name on February 17, as per reports. BJP will hold a Legislative Party meeting tomorrow at 3 pm to elect its leader at the Delhi BJP State Office, reported ANI citing sources.
According to reports, the BJP high command can announce the name of observers by this evening. It is being speculated that the swearing-in of the new Delhi chief minister may take place on February 19.
Yesterday, BJP spokesperson Ajay Alok told the news agency PTI, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi is returning (from his foreign visit) by tonight. There will be a meeting of our parliamentary board tomorrow or the day after. Delhi's new CM will be before you."
According to reports, PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, and other senior party leaders will sit together and finalise the name of the new Delhi CM and other cabinet members.
Delhi Election Result 2025
BJP registered a thumping victory by winning 48 out of 70 assembly seats in Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party was reduced to 22 seats from 62 seats in the last elections. The Congress party, continuing its poor performance, was unable to open its account.
It has been more than a week's time since the results were declared on February 8, but BJP is yet to declare its CM face.
However, there are several names that are making rounds on social media as the frontrunners for the coveted post. These names include newly-elected MLAs Parvesh Verma, who won against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi seat, Rekha Gupta, Ashish Sood, Kapil Mishra, and others.
In other states, after the assembly elections, BJP has sprung surprises by going with low-profile candidates for the chief minister's post.
