Kolkata: A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs led by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari met Governor CV Ananda Bose at Raj Bhavan on Thursday requesting him to ‘expunge’ Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s comment ‘Mrityu Kumbh’ while referring to Maha Kumbh from Assembly records.

Speaking to the media, Adhikari said that such a comment is an insult to Sanatan Hindu Dharma.

“48 hours passed after the comment and the Chief Minister didn’t withdraw the comment. Not just the people of West Bengal but no Sanatanis will accept this comment. We met the Governor to ensure that Assembly Speaker Biman Bandhopadhyay expunge this Mrityu Kumbh comment from the Assembly record. Mamata Banerjee should apologize to people,” said Adhikari.

Notably, on Tuesday while speaking at state Assembly, in keeping with the stampede at Maha Kumbh, Mamata came down heavily on the UP government and temed Maha Kumbh as ‘Mrityu Kumbh’. She even alleged that the UP government had ‘supressed’ the actual death toll.

Meanwhile, Governor CV Ananda Bose on Thursday said that Maha Kumbh is ‘Mrityunjay Kumbh’.

The BJP delegation also complained that they were ‘harassed’ inside the Assembly allegedly by the ruling party to the Governor.

“We are not allowed to speak inside the Assembly. We were arbitrarily suspended. We wanted to speak not unnecessary harassment during Saraswati Puja and suspension of the Puja at some places but we were not allowed to speak inside the House,” further mentioned the Leader of Opposition.

Incidentally, on Monday a day before Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s visit to the Assembly, LoP Adhikari along with Agnimitra Pal, Bankim Ghosh, and Biswanath Karak were suspended for 30 days.
