Bettiah: A disturbing video surfaced from Bettiah's Government Medical College and Hospital in Bihar, wherein the staff could be seen dragging a dead body up a flight of stairs.
The body, reportedly recovered from the Bettiah Nautan Road in Palam City, had been sent to the hospital for a post-mortem but was allegedly mishandled despite a stretcher being available.
According to a report by Navbharat Times, police took custody of the unidentified body before transferring it to GMCH. Eyewitnesses claimed that instead of transporting it on a stretcher, the hospital staff dragged it to the post-mortem room. The video of the incident, widely shared on social media, questioned the hospital’s standards of care.
Locals said that this is not an isolated case, citing earlier instances of negligence at GMCH, including a recent video of children dragging their ailing father on a stretcher for treatment.
No Response From Hospital Administration
Despite the outrage, the GMCH administration is yet to issue a statement. The lack of response has further fuelled criticism of both hospital management and local authorities. “The body was dragged to the post-mortem house in full view of people,” an eyewitness told reporters, adding that the act had “hurt the sentiments” of the community.
Residents claimed that similar acts of insensitivity have occurred before, with no visible accountability from senior health officials.
