Jamalpur (Bihar), July 31: A heartwarming incident took place on the Patna–Dumka Express (13334) when a woman gave birth to a baby in the general coach of the moving train. The event occurred near Jamalpur Railway Station and both the mother and newborn are reported to be healthy.

The incident came to light when a woman identified as Chanda Devi, a resident of Mahmadpur Farda village under Singhia Panchayat in Jamalpur block, was traveling with her family from Patna to Jamalpur. As the train neared Jamalpur station, she experienced severe labor pains, causing panic among her family members.

Fellow women passengers in the general coach displayed courage and assisted in the delivery, helping Chanda Devi safely give birth before medical help could arrive.

As soon as passengers alerted the railway staff, Jamalpur Station Superintendent Sanjay Kumar and his team immediately responded. A medical team was kept on standby, and upon the train’s arrival, female Railway Police personnel swiftly implemented the ‘Operation Matrushakti’ protocol. Chanda Devi and her newborn were carefully moved to the platform and transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further care.

Doctors at the hospital confirmed that both mother and child are in good health. The Ministry of Railways later tweeted, "The joy of a child's birth, our satisfaction in passenger service! With the help of the Jamalpur Station Superintendent and railway staff, a woman traveling on the Patna-Dumka Express (13334) gave birth to a child on the train. Railway workers took the woman to a nearby hospital. Both are safe there."

The ‘Operation Matrushakti’ initiative, launched by the Railways, is designed to provide immediate assistance to female passengers in emergencies such as childbirth during travel. This incident highlights how sensitive and efficient response mechanisms can save lives and ensure the safety of passengers in unexpected situations.
