Recently reports surfaced that two-wheelers have to pay toll-tax from July 15 this year. However, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari fact-checked the news. As par Gadkari no such decision has been proposed.

New Delhi: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday debunked media reports that two-wheelers have to pay toll-tax from July 15, 2025. Rubbishing the media claims, Gadkari said that no such decision has been proposed.

He condemned media houses for publishing fake news without to spread fake news without verifying. "Some media houses are spreading misleading news about imposing toll tax on two-wheeler vehicles. No such decision has been proposed. The exemption on toll for two-wheeler vehicles will continue fully," the Union Minister said.

"Spreading misleading news without verifying the truth to create a sensation is not a sign of healthy journalism. I condemn this," he added.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) also fact-checked these fake media reports.

"#FactCheck: Some sections of the media have reported that the Government of India plans to levy user fees on two-wheelers. #NHAI would like to clarify that no such proposal is under consideration. There are no plans to introduce toll charges for two-wheelers," the NHAI saind in an X post.

Recently reports surfaced that two-wheelers all two-wheelers have to pay toll tax on highways from July 15, Reports further claimed that with the move to bring two-wheelers under the digital toll collection the government is planning to make sure that everybody contribute to maintenance cost of highways.

For the unversed, last week, the Union Ministry of Road Highways and Highways announced that it was rolling out a FASTag Annual Pass. Four-wheel owners will have to pay Rs 3,000 for the annual pass. This pass will only be available for non-commercial private vehicles, from August 15.
