Bengaluru: Explosives were found at Bengaluru’s Kalasipalya bus stand in western Bengaluru on Wednesday, triggering a bomb scare that caused panic and prompted an immediate response from local law enforcement and the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS).

Six gelatin sticks and several detonators were discovered in an unattended carry bag outside the public toilet at the bus stand. An FIR is yet to be registered in the matter.

Locals Alerted Authorities

The bag was found by locals, who promptly alerted the authorities. Police teams and the bomb disposal squad rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area. As a precautionary measure, commuters were evacuate. The area was sealed and checked thoroughly.

Authorities have not revealed any details about the origin of the explosives or whether any suspects have been identified. Probe is underway in the matter.

Gelatin sticks are cheap explosive materials used by industries for mining and construction-related work, like building structures, roads, rails and tunnels etc. They cannot be used without a detonator, according to Indian Express.

What Is A Detonator?

A detonator is a device used to initiate an explosion in high explosives. It acts as a primer, converting a relatively small input (like a flame, electric current, or mechanical impact) into a powerful shockwave that triggers a larger explosion.

Series Of Hoax Alerts

Earlier on Tuesday, a private school in East Bengaluru, Chrysalis High School in Varthur was evacuated after receiving a bomb threat via email, causing panic among students, parents, and staff.

This latest scare follows a series of hoax threats sent to over 40 schools across Bengaluru earlier this month.
