Prayagraj: In a tragic incident, at least 10 pilgrims travelling to Maha Kumbh died after their the car collided with a bus in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj on Friday night. The devotees were reportedly travelling from Chhattisgarh. According to reports, 19 people were also injured in the accident.

The accident took place on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway under the jurisdiction of Meja police station around midnight on Friday night, DCP Yamunanagar, Vivek Chandra Yadav told news agency ANI.

After receiving the information, authorities rushed to the spot. A rescue operation was then launched. The injured were shifted to nearby hospital.

As per the DCP, the bodies have been taken to Swaroop Rani Medical Hospital for postmortem. The reason for the accident is not yet known.

An unfortunate incident happened in Prayagraj when a bus and Bolero collided. All those sitting in the Bolero died in the accident... All the victims were coming to Prayagraj from Chhattisgarh, and the bus was going from Prayagraj to Raigarh," Prayagraj CMO AK Tiwari told ANI.

Yogi Adityanath Expressed Condolences:

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the road accident. and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. As per the CMO, Yogi Adityanath directed the officials to immediately reach the spot and expedite the relief work and also directed the district administration officials to treat the injured properly. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
