Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi to discuss the state's ongoing recovery and relief operations following recent floods.
Assam flood recovery review
During the discussion at Kartavya Bhawan, the Chief Minister provided a comprehensive update on the flood situation, focusing on current damage assessments across affected districts—particularly Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat. He detailed the state's strategic roadmap for rehabilitation, rebuilding infrastructure, and restoring livelihoods for displaced and affected families.
Chief Minister Sarma expressed appreciation for the Union Finance Minister's receptiveness, noting that she listened to Assam's concerns with deep attention and sensitivity.
Centre assures continued support
Following the briefing, the Union Finance Minister assured the state government of the central administration's backing. She stated that the Government of India remains committed to standing alongside Assam to help impacted households rebuild their lives and homes.
The state government continues to prioritise relief delivery, damage evaluation, and long-term livelihood restoration in the worst-hit regions as part of its ongoing flood response initiatives.
