After a daylong drama between the BJP-led Central government and the Trinamool government that led to the retirement of West Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay, the Centre is set to issue a charge-sheet against Alapan.
According to sources, the Centre is planning strict action against Alapan Bandyopadhyay for failing to attend the central duty.
“The Central government asked Alapan Bandyopadhyay to report to the North Block at Delhi by 10am today. He didn’t keep the order for which a charge-sheet will be issued against him,” said the sources.
Notably, despite giving an extension for 3 months of service on May 24, the Centre on May 28 asked him to report to Delhi by May 31.
Following the order, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said she would not release Alapan.
“Alapan has retired from his post as his last day of service was today and from June 1 he will be my chief adviser for three years,” said Mamata, urging everyone to stand against the BJP-led Central government for ‘hurting’ bureaucracy.
Appointing Alapan as her chief adviser, Mamata said he would get a monthly pay of Rs2.5 lakh, along with other government benefits, decided by the finance dept. Importantly, Delhi CM Kejriwal took to social media to support her move. Congress, too, welcomed her decision.
