Ajmer, March 8: Ajmer witnessed chaos on Saturday, March 8, as lawyers protested the death of senior advocate Purushottam Jakhetia, who was fatally assaulted in Pushkar after asking miscreants to lower loud music. The agitation turned violent, leading to vandalism at City Square, Miraj Mall, and other marketplaces.

The Ajmer Bar Association had called for a bandh, with president Ashok Singh Rawat urging a peaceful shutdown. However, tensions flared near Ajmer Railway Station as angry lawyers forcefully closed shops, hitting grills with sticks and throwing away goods.

Markets in Ajmer, Pushkar, Nasirabad, and Beawar remained largely shut, except for medical stores, schools, and petrol pumps. Despite efforts to restore calm, unrest persisted in parts of the city.

Protesters stormed liquor shops on Pushkar Road, entered Cine World in Ajmer, and assaulted a liquor shop operator and a youth drinking alcohol. A tempo at Ramganj Square was also stopped, forcing passengers to disembark.

Have a look:

As per reports, Jakhetia was attacked on March 2 when he objected to loud music near a liquor shop on Budha Pushkar Road. Intoxicated miscreants brutally assaulted him, causing severe head injuries. He later succumbed during treatment.

Police have filed a case against the DJ operator and unidentified attackers based on a complaint by Jakhetia's nephew, Ankush. This is Ajmer's second citywide shutdown in a week, following a protest on March 1 over the Bijaynagar gangrape-blackmail case.
