Uttar Pradesh Women's Commission Chairperson Babita Chauhan on Wednesday met the family of a five-year-old rape survivor in Agra's Jagdishpura area, assuring them that the case would be fast-tracked to ensure justice. The accused, who had initially fled the crime scene, was later arrested.

Chauhan, who visited the survivor's home and the temple where the incident occurred, described the case as "extremely unfortunate" and emphasised the need for societal vigilance against such crimes. "The child has been sent for medical examination, and the accused is in custody," she stated.

Addressing concerns about potential out-of-court settlements, Chauhan revealed, "At one point, the family considered compromise, but police counseled them against it. There's no possibility of the accused escaping punishment now." She commended police intervention while urging parents to remain vigilant against child sexual abuse.

The Commission pledged legal support, with Chauhan expressing confidence in a verdict within 15 days through fast-track proceedings. "We must ensure stringent punishment to deter such heinous acts," she asserted, highlighting systemic efforts to prevent case dilution.

The accused was initially arrested but subsequently released by police, only to be rearrested after CCTV footage emerged showing the sexual assault on the minor. The incident occurred on 18th May when the child was playing near a temple next to her home. According to the victim's grandmother, a neighbour identified as Pavitra (alias Pammi) lured the girl inside the temple premises where the assault took place.
